Shelf helps you save a page or link and remember to return to it. This page explains what Shelf stores and how it is used.

In short: Shelf stores the page or link you choose, its title, your optional note, and reminder settings in Chrome's local extension storage. Shelf does not send this information to the developer or to external servers.

What Shelf stores

Shelf accesses a page's URL and title only when you invoke the extension or choose a Shelf command from the context menu. It does not read pages or monitor browsing in the background.

When you save a page or link, Shelf stores the following in Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local):

  • The URL of the saved page
  • The page title, which you can edit
  • An optional note you write
  • The date and time you choose for the reminder
  • Whether the reminder repeats daily

This information stays in your Chrome profile on your device. Shelf does not transmit it, sell it, or share it with third parties. The developer does not receive it.

What Shelf does not do

  • Connect to an external server or API
  • Collect analytics, usage data, or crash reports
  • Read pages or monitor browsing activity in the background
  • Use cookies
  • Share information with third parties
  • Sell data
  • Require an account or sign-in

Permissions

  • storage — Saves your shelf items locally on your device.
  • alarms — Schedules reminders for the times you choose.
  • notifications — Displays reminder and confirmation notifications.
  • contextMenus — Adds right-click options to save a page or link.
  • activeTab — Reads the current page's URL and title after you invoke Shelf, so it can save the page you chose.

Data deletion

You can delete any saved item from the extension popup. Uninstalling Shelf removes its locally stored extension data from your Chrome profile. Because Shelf does not send data to a server, there is no server-side data to request deletion of.

Children's privacy

Shelf is not designed to collect information from children. A URL or note that you choose to save may contain information you consider personal. Shelf keeps it in Chrome's local extension storage and does not send it to the developer.
